I didn't know what old school rap is ... how different is it from other rap? I could hear the beat in my head when I read it, though!

Old school rap, in my opinion, is way better than most of the stuff you hear now. I'd say anything up through the mid to late 90's is where a majority of the good stuff is.
A few suggestions: House of Pain, ODB, A Tribe Called Quest...Mase, Puff Daddy (what "Sean Puffy Combs" used to go by), and Jay-Z, had some great stuff when they first started out too back in the day, so check it out if you're interested.
