TV Womans Networking

The reading 281-283 in "Bust" discusses todays womans television network. Most of these shows are about woman being treated poorly, having terrible lives, and how life couldn't be any harder. What is it about todays TV that gets these womans shows such high ratings? Woman today are trying to be so independent and yet the shows are focused around woman being powerless. Why would this type of show be so popular to woman? Does it make them feel like they can get out there and make a change? In todays society, woman are working hard to become more dominant and selfsufficient. Yet in a large percentage of what networks focused on a womans audience is showing seems to contradict how woman really want to be treated.
