"We love them we hate them we love to hate them" pg. 265 of BUST.

Women are addicted to the media and gossip. I mean, honestly look how many magazines are completely devoted to celeb gossip alone. But once we buy these conviently located gossip magazines we skim the pages only to see super slim super models gracing the pages. This is the part we hate, we desperately want to be them and live the lavish lives they do. They always have the perfect body, the hottest boyfriends, the most money and of course the most fabulous style. Why do you believe women keep going through this lowering of self esteem cycle on a daily basis? Why do you think women care so much about what other women look like and do? Why do women buy 200.00 dollar jeans just because Fergie is wearing them? Do you think these magazines will ever go out of style?

Definitely some very interesting ideas posed here. But since this discussion blog is not relevant to LESSON 6 material, please post your comments in the blog titled:

Constant competition...

I think this relates back to what we discussed last week. There is a constant, unspoken competition among women. Who's the prettiest, the skinniest, the richest, who has the best eyes, nose, skin. The list goes on and on. While we love the magazines, (they're our guilty pleasures), we hate them because they perpetuate this ongoing competition of who looks the best.

But, if we don't keep up with the latest styles, the latests diets, the latest fads, then we will be the ones losing the competition. And who wants to lose? Maybe we don't have to win, but we all at least want to "tie". We want to be equal or in first place, but no one wants to be left behind.
