The Sword and the Stone
“Or how men justify muscles and a girl realizes her strength.”

Once upon a time, as these things always start, there was a town that was built around a great and fantastic magic sword. But this was no ordinary sword, and it wasn’t just lying in the mud for that matter; no the sword was buried to the hilt within a stone. Now the reason the town was built around this magical sword was due to the fact whoever pulled the sword free, would be the ruler of the land. With a sword like that you want to stay as close as you can, and trust me rent was higher the nearer you got. So in this town all the men worked and trained to become strong in hopes that they would one day pull the sword from the stone. This story is not so much about any of those very strong men, but about a sister of one of those very strong men.

Lilith was the sister of Cecil, one of the strongest of the strong, and as all women in the town Lilith never got much respect. Lilith was left to do chores and keep the house, water the animals, and every other job that needed to be done. This role was quite common among all the women of the town, and no one ever really complained or worried about what they had to do; that is until Lilith started to think about what fair really is.
Lilith awoke one morning and instead of fixing breakfast and feeding the animals she went and began to lift her brother’s weights. She continued this until her brother came downstairs, and much to his fright there she was!
“What are you doing silly girl!?”
“I am lifting weights like you.”
“But that is not what you do; you do the women’s work!”
“And who is to say that it’s women’s work. Just because it’s left to women to do, doesn’t mean we HAVE to do it. Did you ever think of doing the chores? How about helping?”
“Silly little girl! I am a man; I must train and become strong so I can pull the sword out of the stone. What I do is far more important because I will rule the land some day. You see how clear that is? Now go on and start your work.”
“NO! I refuse. What if all the women stop working? What then? The town will crumble and go poor, and then what good is a king?”
“Refuse if you want, women’s work is easy and not worth a man’s time.”
“Well I never!”
Lilith stomped out of the room and much to her brother’s bewilderment came storming back in wearing pants and a shirt. Lilith walked over to her mucky boots strapped them on and walked toward the door.
“What are you doing sister!?”
“I am going to try and pull that precious sword out of the stupid stone.”
Her brother let out a bellowing laugh “Just go ahead and try, a woman can not run a country, she has no training.”
Lilith came to the town center, started to push and shove her way through the packed crowd of men. Lilith began to scream and shout barreling through burley men twice her size. Hollers and protests came “What are you doing!?”, “It’s a girl!” Lilith forced her way to the sword and glared at the crowd.
“All you stupid men, all you do is train your bodies as your minds grow feeble. You leave the running of a country up to the women; this is why you have the luxury to be muscle heads.”
A shout came from the crowd.
“Little girl, we take care of running the land for we try to pull the sword from the stone.”
“Your stupid sword, this sword here is more important than functioning as a society!?”
As Lilith placed her hand on the sword, jerking in anger, the sword wrenched free gleaming into the sun. The entire crowd stood amazed, as a girl stood holding the magical sword. Lilith would be the ruler of all the land!
As the crowd stood dumbfounded a booming and mighty voice was heard by all.
“Lilith is truly worthy of ruling the land, she is smart and knows how to manage, care for others, and get work done, and she can also do taxes well. All the men of this land should be ashamed! The land has been run by women for generations as you good for nothing lunkheads work on your muscles. Lilith is Queen, long live Lilith.

The end.

Long Live Lilith!

Yay Lilith! The combination of the two fairy tales really worked well. I liked the threat of a strike on the part of all women- what would happen then?!? Disney certainly needs to take a page from you, Group 6. You did a beautiful job incorporating a number of different themes we've been discussing. Great job!
