Grading Policy

In order to receive a passing grade for this course, you must complete all assignments. There are no extensions for deadlines and I do not accept late papers. If you have a question or concern about a grade that you receive on a piece of work, first please read my comments carefully, weigh them against the assignment requirements, and if you are still unsure you may compose a thoughtful letter detailing the specifics of your objection(s) and forward to me as an attachment. Your reasons should be specific and supported by references to the grading criteria (below), to the expectations of the assignment, and to specific details from your work. All grade related questions must be addressed no more than one week after the grade has been awarded to you.

Grades are given according to the following guidelines:

A = work that is of exceptional quality. For work to be of exceptional quality, it must engage with the topics covered in the course as well as integrate material drawn from outside sources. In addition, it should be thoroughly researched and integrate a variety of sources in a careful and eloquent way. Exceptional work demonstrates logical reasoning, and is precisely and artfully written.

B = work that is above average as compared to your peers' work and the expectations of the assignment.

C = work that adequately fulfills the course requirements in every way.

D = work that does not adequately fulfill requirements, but still deserves some credit.

F = work that deserves no credit. Copying others' work and submitting it as your own constitutes plagiarism, and will result in a failing grade.
