The reading 281-283 in "Bust" discusses todays womans television network. Most of these shows are about woman being treated poorly, having terrible lives, and how life couldn't be any harder. What is it about todays TV that gets these womans shows such high ratings? Woman today are trying to be so independent and yet the shows are focused around woman being powerless. Why would this type of show be so popular to woman? Does it make them feel like they can get out there and make a change? In todays society, woman are working hard to become more dominant and selfsufficient. Yet in a large percentage of what networks focused on a womans audience is showing seems to contradict how woman really want to be treated.

"We love them we hate them we love to hate them" pg. 265 of BUST.

Women are addicted to the media and gossip. I mean, honestly look how many magazines are completely devoted to celeb gossip alone. But once we buy these conviently located gossip magazines we skim the pages only to see super slim super models gracing the pages. This is the part we hate, we desperately want to be them and live the lavish lives they do. They always have the perfect body, the hottest boyfriends, the most money and of course the most fabulous style. Why do you believe women keep going through this lowering of self esteem cycle on a daily basis? Why do you think women care so much about what other women look like and do? Why do women buy 200.00 dollar jeans just because Fergie is wearing them? Do you think these magazines will ever go out of style?

The readings for this lesson focus on the roles of sexuality among women and men. The information presented focuses on the double standard that is placed upon sexual roles. Women are seen as submissive as men are viewed as the dominant pleasure giver. Given the double standard incorporated with the discovery and exploration of sexuality among teens can one assume that the “natural” behaviors and actions of females at this time are representative of current social attitudes and beliefs? To say that society influences how teen females develop and grow does the current information flood presented on the internet and television (i.e. Sex and the City, etc…) encourage or influence the development of female sexuality? If so how does it influence such development? Are women more open minded about their bodies and “roles?” Do women feel that they are still expected to fulfill a typecast as “girlfriend” and how could this expectation influence those who are homosexual? Does the double standard that men are dominant and women submissive still hold up today in a society were media presents various alternative lifestyles?
