Welcome to the Weblog for the WS001 Introduction to Women's Studies course at Penn State University!
This class uses a weblog (or blog) for certain segments of the course, particularly the class discussions and projects. You will find more information as you explore the site using the menus on the right hand site of the site. But before you get started, you must select a UserName and Password to access this site—your username can be anything you want, and it should not be your PSU ID. Instead, choose something imaginative that reflects the virtual identity that you want to create while participating in this class. You are free to conceal your actual identity or reveal yourself as you see fit. All I require is that you register with your PSU email address so I can verify your identity for grading purposes.
Once you've registered for the site, you can begin to explore the blogs that we'll be using.
- The Instructor Blog is where I present an overview of the topics and themes of each Lesson.
- The Discussion Blogis where you will be posting your thoughts on the readings and lectures
- The Project Blog is where you and your group-mates will be engaging in innovative activities.
Be sure to read over the Syllabus and Course Policies so you know what is expected of you. Your assignment due dates are all outlined in detail in the Course Calendar, so be sure to check it out often. Check out our Class Forum, where you can ask questions about the course format or voice concerns you are having with the technology. This is also where you will find your Group Message Board, where you can work collectively on various group projects.
In the green box on the left, you will find your user controls—this is where and how you post your material to the Discussion Blog, Project Blog, Class Forum or Group Message Board. This is also where you can keep track of your participation points and find out who else is online.
There is a lot to look over, so get started.
Happy surfing!
